Tuina is a highly advanced system of massage
It can be used to treat both physical and internal problems. Originating in China, the techniques are often gentle, but the effects deep and long lasting. It is usually administered through light clothing.Chinese Tui Na (meaning “push pull”) was called ‘An Mo’ or massage in ancient times. The term Tui Na was first seen during the Ming Dynasty and is a very important component of Chinese medicine alongside acupuncture, herbal medicine and Qi Gong exercises.
Manual manipulations with an energetic focus are used to stimulate the same energy channels as acupuncture, as well as specific points along those channels, the soft tissues, sinews and organs.
What makes Tuina different?
Tuina differs from other forms of massage in that it is rooted in an understanding of the flow of vital energy (or Qi, pronounced “chee”) and is used to treat specific internal conditions as well as musculoskeletal ailments. Diagnosis is rooted in the complex philosophy and theory of oriental medicine thus enabling a comprehensive treatment plan.
Tuina is appropriate and effective in the following conditions:
- Muscular/skeletal complaints:
- arthritis, rheumatism, back pain, sciatica, soft tissue injuries,
- muscular and joint pain, stiffness and restricted mobility
- Gynaecological/Menstrual problems and Fertility issues
- Digestive problems:
- constipation, IBS, bloating, abdominal pain and nausea
- Asthma, cough, sinusitis, common cold, flu
- Numbness, hemiplegia and post stroke symptoms of weakness
ZERO BALANCING or ZB
I have done a number of trainings in ZB (pronounced “zee bee”) over the years and find it a valuable complement to the healing that acupuncture can engender. It is a therapy that uses touch to address the relationship between energy and structure within the body. The work is gentle to receive but potentially powerful in effect, capable of helping a wide range of people at many different levels. The touch used in Zero Balancing has a characteristic clarity, which engages the body’s structure and energy simultaneously in a way that harmonises the relationship between them. Finger pressure and held stretches are focused on the bones and joints so as to create repeated points of stillness around which the body can relax and reorganise.
These points of stillness invite the release of tension, and offer a person the opportunity to let go of unease and pain. In this way problems may be resolved and symptoms relieved.
Zero Balancing takes a person into a state of relaxation that refreshes their whole being and from which they experience a profound sense of well-being and body-felt unity.
